Fairhaven Water Gardens
We were so lucky with the weather for our visit to Fairhaven. Although the wind was keen, the sun shone warmly for the day. Fairhaven is a beautiful site of woodland and waterways. It has it’s own private broad where you can watch cormorants, herons and Egyptian geese going about their business.
Our group had a lovely tour with Marie who gave us a potted history of the site and information about the work that has been done on the 136 acres! Many of the trees are ancient, some about 1,000 years old, like this stunning oak tree, named The King Oak.
The waterways were just beautiful, especially in the dappled sunlight and the ducks were very content.
The site manages their woodland and have specialist tree surgeons ensuring that the health of the trees is optimum. Any felled trees are repurposed and some, as you can see in the pictures are carved into beautiful seats.
Two of our members brought their dogs along with them and they definitely enjoyed themselves. Henry, the golden doodle particularly enjoyed his leisurely boat ride on the broad to St. Benet’s Abbey!
Another lovely visit with the club. I’m sure some of us will return!
